In less than two weeks I will begin demolition of our disgusting main bathroom. Before I buy the rest of the supplies I would love to get your opinions on our shower.
Option 1
Standard one piece tub/shower combo - The husband likes this idea because it is simple and virtually leak-proof. Because he is tall and tends to splash water above the shower we would have tile extending from the top of the shower up to the ceiling.
Option 2
Tile - It looks nice and still fits into our budget, however it requires more maintenance (sealing, cleaning, etc). I worry it might deter buyers when we move in a few years.
So if this was your house, which one would you choose? Bear in mind, we expect my husband to be transferred within two years so we are thinking of our future buyers.

First off let me say tile is not exactly fast when done properly. However, tile looks much nicer and adds more value to your home. I'd offer the following order based on appearance and value.
1. Go with a tile shower. Be sure you get a proper membrane for the base along with proper cement board walls. This is the most costly option but I think it's worth it.
2. Hybrid - In our first home I renovated the bathroom and installed a fiberglass tub base then I tiled the walls and ceiling above with Marble tile. It had the beauty of tile with the "leak-proof" benefits of a prefabricated tub.
3. In our new home we installed a complete fiberglass unit in the kids bathroom to save cost and prevent accidental leaks.
Best of luck!!
I'm not a fan of the plastic tub/shower combo. Maybe I lived in too many apartments with them. They just look cheap to me.
I can understand the appeal of lower maintenance, there's always more work than time right? But I definitely plan to put tile (white subway) in my shower and would think anything besides a one piece is better for resale.
I'm with Todd. Our new bathroom in the addition I built is a tiled stall. The bathroom that I remodeled some years back is a tub with a tiled shower surround. As min hus said, the all plastic units feel cheap (they say motel to me rather than apartment, but similar.)
